In 1854, the first store in the Bon-Ton family of Department stores opened. A family composed of seven of the longest-lived nameplates in retail, each with its own storied past, coming together over the past 160 years. The eldest was founded before the Civil War, the youngest before the Great Depression. They have thrived in the face of historic upheavals and profound cultural and technological transformations. Through it all, our associates have been the bed-rock upon which all of our success has been built. Each generation has adapted and found new ways to serve and engage our customers with great service and merchandise. But we are more than just a business. We have been part of our customers’ lives in their communities. Across the decades, we have helped raise nearly $350 million to support a large variety of charitable organizations that are right in our own backyards. We are proud of our rich heritage. In 1854, the first store in the Bon-Ton family of Department stores opened.
